Campus Guardian Angel to Launch First-in-the-Nation Pilot Program in Three Florida School Districts
AUSTIN, TX – This week, the Florida Department of Education announced that three Florida school districts – Broward, Leon and Volusia – will be participating in Campus Guardian Angel's first-in-the-nation pilot program, bringing a new elite, on-site safety service that uses drones remotely operated by world-class pilots to confront and degrade active shooter threats within seconds.
Campus Guardian Angel's drones are equipped with sirens, pepper spray, and other distraction devices designed to prevent a shooter from harming anyone while providing a critical advantage to law enforcement and first responders in order to save lives.
Earlier this year, the Florida Legislature and Governor Ron DeSantis approved $557,000 in funding in the state’s 2025-26 budget for three Florida school districts to participate in a Campus Guardian Angel pilot program, which Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas called "an important step in expanding the safety tools available to our districts."
After Monday's announcement, Campus Guardian Angel CEO Justin Marston and Chief Tactical Officer Bill King issued the following statement:
"We are proud that Florida is the first state in the nation to fund and implement a pilot program that will give school districts and first responders every advantage in protecting the lives of students, teachers, and staff on campus. Florida has established itself as an innovator in school safety, and we are deeply grateful to Commissioner Kamoutsas, Governor DeSantis, and the Florida Legislature for their leadership in pushing this program forward and embracing innovation to keep campuses safe."
Campus Guardian Angel will be working with each participating district to install the drone service and associated infrastructure, and anticipates the service will be operational on each designated campus by the beginning of 2026.
