Why Non-Lethal Response Could Change School Safety
June 4, 2025
When a school shooting happens, the goal is clear: stop the threat, protect lives, and get everyone home safely.
But what if the right kind of response could stop an incident from happening at all?
Many mass shooters are not trying to escape once they start. According to data, a significant percentage are suicidal before they are homicidal. They are not just expecting confrontation. In some cases, they are actively seeking it.
This raises a new question: what happens when the outcome they expect never arrives?
Not lethal force, but disruption. Not a firefight, but distraction. A response that delays, disorients, or incapacitates, without escalating to loss of life, including to the attacker.
This shift in response won’t prevent every act of violence. But if it could prevent even one school shooting, that’s a conversation worth having.
And when a crisis does occur, that same solution must be able to engage effectively. Not only to reduce harm, but to buy time, prevent collateral damage, and give law enforcement a safer, clearer path forward.
Non-Lethal Doesn’t Mean Ineffective
In standard lockdown procedures, school safety focuses on two approaches - lockdown and delay, or armed response. But these options leave a gap between lockdown and the arrival of help - during which time students and staff are often left waiting.
Non-lethal deterrents offer a third path, especially when the tools are already on campus and can activate within seconds of a confirmed threat.
Campus Guardian Angel’s drones are designed for exactly that window. Deployed in seconds, flown by elite human pilots, and equipped with non-lethal deterrents, they offer immediate action without increased risk to bystanders.
As Rick Goodrich (Chief of Safety and Security Boerne ISD) shared when speaking about his experience training with Campus Guardian Angel during a Texas Senate hearing earlier this year:
“Any second that we’re distracting or disorienting the attacker, he’s not hurting innocent civilians.”
The goal isn’t more force - it's faster, safer and strategic effects to stop harm of the innocent and vulnerable.
Out of Sight Until Needed
Our drones are not meant to make a school feel like a military base. They are strategically placed based on school size, student population, and building layout - and stay silent, inactive and out of sight until a threat has been confirmed.
Like an airbag in a car, you don’t see it and hope you’ll never need it. But in the moment of crisis, it’s there to save lives when everything goes wrong.
Less Harm. More Protection.
This is what sets Campus Guardian Angel apart. We offer quick response without collateral damage. Control without hesitation. Action without lethal cross-fire.
When used in the first seconds of a crisis, our drones can shift the balance. They protect students and teachers while giving law enforcement the time and situational awareness they need to act safely and effectively.
They may even do more than stop a shooting in progress. By denying the attacker the confrontation they expect, they may also prevent violence from happening in the first place.
A Safer Way Forward
In an ideal world, no school would ever need to respond to a shooting. But until that world exists, we believe in giving every school the tools to protect their students, faculty, and staff without adding danger.
Campus Guardian Angel combines human expertise, elite piloting, and rapid response into one system - built to reduce harm, save lives, and support the people on the ground when it matters most.
Every student deserves to learn in a safe environment knowing that their campus has guardian angels that have their back.
